To understand OCD and obsessive-compulsive struggles, we have to gain an understanding of compulsions. If you want to understand how OCD operates, the world of OCD really manifests through compulsive living. Compulsions are the manifestation of OCD.

The word compulsion involves an irresistible and persistent urge or impulse to alleviate the disturbance of an obsession. Its word history ties into the word compel, speaks of a “driving or urging.” The etymology of compulsion can reveal a meaning of “coercion, application of force (to someone) overwhelming his preferences.
