Am I Living in My Strength or God’s Strength? (What Does that Even Mean?)

I like to address common statements that Christians say that often become cliche, but also don’t have depth of meaning and understanding. They become blanket statements that are overused without much thought. We often do not even know what they mean.

One of them is, “You are doing this in your own strength, not God’s strength.” But what does this even mean? Many times when I ask people what they mean, they don’t really know.

The statement, “You have been doing this in your own strength. You need to do it in God’s strength,” is a common prescription given to believers as a reason for why they are struggling, stuck or battling.

What does this statement even mean and can we get some fruitful insight?
