S03 Ep10: Utilizing Your Physiology

Do you realize that many of the transformational experiences you want often take physical action that aligns with it? We often want to experience transformation, but we often need to learn how to engage our physiology.

Christians can be notorious for not understanding how to engage our physiology for maximum impact. You can make a lot of changes right away, simply by using your physiology.

Many times in the Bible, there was a physical act that went along with a spiritual transformational moment.

  • Kneeling
  • Bowing
  • Praise
  • Running
  • Shouting
  • Yelling
  • Tearing off garments
  • Weeping
  • Singing
  • Dancing
  • Clapping your hands
  • Lifting up your hands
  • Look up
  • Lift up your heads

We often make the mistake of hoping out thoughts change and then we will act on it. I have found that many times I need to take action to get my inner man to come into full agreement.

Learning to Act in the Midst of Pain

I remember when I was neck deep in the throws of anxiety, to the point that my chest was hurting and my neck was in pain. Sometimes I thought my heart was giving out, but it was actually anxiety and panic attacks.

In my search for answers, God spoke to my heart. “I want to teach you how to praise and worship, despite what’s going on in your life.”

I thought this was crazy thinking. I was praying for healing from anxiety, while God was talking to me about praise and worship.

Learning to Engage My Physiology Powerfully

But he was teaching me some important precepts.

  1. I needed to learn the power of praise and worship as a weapon in my life.
  2. I also needed to learn how to utilize and command my physiology to act in a certain way, even though my inner life was feeling the opposite.

So there I was in my bedroom, learning to dance, shout, kneel, sing and cry before the Lord. Soon into it I learned something so special: physical acts often go along with what we long for spiritually.

Breaking Out of Dormant Living

Today, we can often get so locked into our patterns, that our bodies carry the dormancy and lack of transformation.

When was the last time you laughed? Shouted with joy? Danced? (oh that’s a crazy one) Or even just worshipped with free expression?

Sound crazy? You may be missing out on something special. Because many times, when God would command His people or His church into something transformative, there was often a physical act or action that would take place.

When I began to learn to engage my physiology into the transformational process, it brought  a whole new freedom and breakthrough to my journey. It helped me to come alive to what was possible in greater measure.

It even changed me right down to my personality. You can experience this too.

In this episode, I want to talk about the transformative power of utilizing your physiology.
