So many believers deeply desire to live right before God, uphold strong values, and walk in holiness. Yet behind that sincere desire, there is often a hidden burden—an emotional and spiritual pressure that never lets you rest, never lets you feel “enough,” and never lets you simply be loved by God. This is the toxic yoke of Christian perfectionism.
In my new book, “Freedom from Just Right But Never Enough: The Christian Perfectionist Healing Journey,” I unpack a mindset that has quietly infected the body of Christ. It disguises itself as spiritual zeal and commitment, but underneath it is fueled by anxiety, shame, and a constant cycle of, “never enough” that leaves you burdened, stressed, angry and exhausted.

Christian perfectionism often starts with what seems like noble goals: wanting to do the right thing, wanting to be right with God, wanting to live a holy, pleasing life. But over time, it morphs into something very different. Instead of living from God’s grace, we feel like we must earn it. Instead of resting in the Father’s love, we work tirelessly to qualify for it. This creates a daily lifestyle of relentless pressure, chronic stress and anxiety, condemnation and self-judgment, and burnout, weariness, and depression. The inner dialogue becomes: “Do more. Do better. Try harder. Get it just right.” And even when you do, it still feels like it’s never enough.
This mindset doesn’t just live in your theology; it infiltrates almost every area of your life. The “just right but never enough” pattern can show up as pressure to get your thoughts just right, pressure to have the perfect motives, pressure to read the Bible just right, pressure to feel your connection with God is always just right, and pressure to keep your relationships, work, marriage, and parenting just right. You may find yourself constantly fussing over your inner world, ruminating over decisions, second-guessing whether you’ve disappointed God, and feeling like you can never “land” in a place of peace. No wonder so many believers feel exhausted, disillusioned, and spiritually worn out. We’re trying to carry a burden God never designed us to carry.
One of the most tragic effects of Christian perfectionism is how it distorts your view of God. Perfectionism disconnects your heart from the beauty of God’s grace, keeps you from experiencing the Father’s unconditional love, and makes God’s love feel foreign, uncomfortable, or “too good to be true.” Yet the message of the gospel is that we are called to receive and then live FROM what we could never perform or earn. God’s love and grace are meant to transform how you see God, heal how you see yourself, and influence how you see the world around you.
But perfectionism wars against this rest. It keeps you in fight, flight, and striving, instead of sonship, security, and grace.
In “Freedom from Just Right But Never Enough,” I invite you into a healing journey, layer by layer, out of the grip of Christian perfectionism and into a more grounded, grace-filled walk with God.
In this book, you will see what perfectionism looks like in your Christian walk, including how it shows up in your spiritual life, relationships, and inner world. You’ll gain insight into how “just right but never enough” takes root; where it comes from, why it feels so spiritual and how it keeps you stuck.
You’ll discover twelve common types of Christian perfectionists, so you can identify which patterns you relate to and why. You’ll begin a practical healing journey out of shame, understanding how shame fuels perfectionism and how to untangle from it.
You’ll change your relationship with fear, moving from a fear-based relationship with God to a love-based one. You’ll end the inner war you have with yourself, learning to relate to your weaknesses, struggles, and battles with compassion instead of constant criticism. And you’ll recalibrate your stress and fight-or-flight response, so your nervous system can move from chronic spiritual “emergency mode” to grounded, daily peace.
This is not about becoming spiritually lazy or careless. It’s about letting go of a toxic yoke so you can walk more fully in the freedom of Christ, the love of the Father, and the comfort of the Holy Spirit.
If you’ve lived under constant spiritual pressure, never-ending self-evaluation, persistent guilt and condemnation, and the inner belief that you’re always “falling short”—then this book is an invitation to step off the treadmill of Christian perfectionism. You were not created to live under a mindset of “just right, but never enough.” You were created to live from the unshakable love of the Father and the finished work of Christ.
