In this broadcast I div into the intersection of biblical truth and mental health, and how the two meet us right in the middle of our real-life struggles. I start in Philippians 1:12–18, looking at Paul’s imprisonment as a master class in what I call “redeemed interpretation.” Paul was in chains, but he refused to live as a victim. Instead, he saw his situation as an opportunity to advance the gospel. We explore how it’s not just what happens to you that shapes your life—it’s the story you tell yourself about what you’re going through and the meaning you attach to it. From there, we talk about how God can use your suffering to embolden the faith of others, and how your courage in trials can become contagious in a very good way.
A big part of the live stream is given to a vulnerable question about body image. A 23-year-old shared that he feels worthless without “movie star good looks.” If you’ve ever looked in the mirror and only seen flaws, this part will hit home.
We also tackle the modern prophetic scene and the “God told me” culture. Many believers are confused by people online who claim daily messages and national words from God. I share my candid concerns and talk about what New Testament prophecy is supposed to look like.
On the mental health side, I spend significant time on OCD and scrupulosity. A 19-year-old wrote in about a thought that said, “Quit your job,” which immediately turned into, “Was that God?” and led to endless spiraling, researching, and reassurance seeking (even using AI). I explain how intrusive thoughts work, how OCD latches onto spiritual language, and why continually checking and analyzing only makes the thought larger and scarier.
We also look at one of the most tormenting fears I hear from believers: “Have I committed the unpardonable sin?” I respond to a story of someone who’s carried that fear for decades, and I explain why this is rooted in scrupulosity and distorted emotions, not in an actual abandonment by God. I also address another listener’s question takes us into over-scrupulous ethics in work and career.
Woven throughout the broadcast are real-time conversations with my wife Melissa about marriage, date nights, and how ministry should flow out of the health of the home—not the other way around. We talk about what we actually do on our dates, how we stay connected, and why simple, faithful love in the everyday is often more spiritually significant than the grand, platform moments people chase.
