Join Melissa and I as we celebrate the launch of my newest book, The Myth of the Perfect One, a book about healing through Relationship OCD. We tell behind the scenes stories of the journey, while also bringing out some important insight in navigating this anxiety ridden styruggle. We talk about its impact on dating and marriage, exploring how obsessive thoughts, perfectionism, and spiritual overthinking can hinder the journey in a variety of ways.
Listen to Mark tell his story about “Don’t be a fish!” or “Don’t be like Dick!” that he heard in the midst of his intense anxiety and confusion.
We also talk about how Christianity can feed the intense standard of finding the “perfect person God has for me to marry.” We push back on the distortions of OCD while confronting many of the Christian cliches that hold people back from facing their fears and walking towards a growing relationship in love. Many fall into the trap of trying to hear from God about the person they want to marry and we address dreams, signs, confirmation and even prophetic words that people can chase in their obsessive-compulsive confusion.
We address a question that asks, “How can a single person be more prepared and equipped when it comes to getting ready for marriage?”
We talk about the importance of making decisions towards growing in love, emphasizing that love grows through commitment and working through challenges together, rather than waiting for a perfect, mystical sign from God.
