Today’s Sunday Live broadcast was a heartfelt exploration of the real-life mental health challenges that so many of us face. We covered a whole bunch of topics, including, OCD, anxiety, heaviness, depression and narcissism. Melissa and I started out with talking about the intersection of cleanliness, order, and the influence of obsessive-compulsiveness. Where do you draw the line?
I took some time in this live to address a very important topic in our mental health journey, based off of 1 John 4:17-19. I called it “Breaking Free from Torment and Fear of Punishment.” In it, I break down the diagnosis that John brings to our fears and spent some time praying over your life and freedom from the influence of the fear factor.
The Q&A portion brought a wide range of deeply personal questions from listeners, touching on:
- The ongoing struggle with a particular area of sin and the resulting fear of being “doomed for hell,” especially when OCD and intrusive thoughts are involved.
- The experience of intense heaviness and depression, particularly when it’s compounded by social media use and the feeling of being unable to get out of bed.
- The challenge of forgiving a narcissistic father, especially when dealing with the long-term effects of narcissistic abuse and complex family dynamics.
- The pain and confusion of living with a spouse who exhibits narcissistic traits and the impact this has on connection, boundaries, and family life.
- Why does Mark not like the word “partner” in describing romantice relationships?
- The looming fear of developing hereditary diseases like Alzheimer’s, and how health anxiety can take hold when there’s a family history of illness. Health OCD battles.
- The question of where to draw the line between exposure therapy and compulsion, particularly when it comes to revisiting past trauma.
Throughout the broadcast, we continue to emphasize the importance of the love of the Father and the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. Tune in and let’s keep walking this journey, supporting one another as we learn, grow, and heal.
