🔴 Why do I Struggle with Condemnation? | Reading the Bible with Distortions | Free to Make Decisions

Today I dive into questions from believers wrestling with OCD, scrupulosity, intrusive thoughts, relationship anxiety, burnout, and condemnation. If you’ve ever felt “just right but never enough,” overwhelmed by perfectionism, or stuck in religious obsessiveness, this is a space where I invite you to slow down, breathe, and discover that God’s heart is not performance-driven, but rooted in love, grace, and patient process.

I talk through what ministry burnout really looks like beneath the surface, especially for those serving in modern church systems that inflame perfectionism and constant “do more, be more” pressure. I bring that into a biblical lens: What does Jesus’ invitation to rest actually look like for a burnt-out believer? What does it mean to value health over numbers? I also explore how OCD and scrupulosity twist our view of God, Scripture, and ourselves—how condemnation and self-condemnation keep us stuck in a courtroom mindset God never asked us to live in.

We also dig into some deeper Bible and theology wrestlings, bringing out how obsessiveness and scriupulosity will create distortions in how we even read the Bible. What is meant to be helpful and empowering becomes material that creates anxiety, fear and condemnation. Context gets lost when OCD, condemnation and fear are in our filter. I walk through how our mental health, trauma, and cognitive biases affect the way we read Scripture and perceive God. I talk about confusion about condemantion and why we struggle with it. If you struggle with your assurance of salvation or feel like your standing with God is fragile, this conversation will speak directly into that battleground.

Along the way, I respond to questions about dreams involving a father killing you, feeling “vexed” by the wickedness in the world, severe anxiety around allergies and phobias, and how to help someone in your Bible study whose OCD prayers and compulsions are taking over the room. I also tackle a big one: If only God is truly good, how do people who don’t know Christ still experience real healing and growth through therapy, neuroscience, or other practices? And I get very practical about how Christians can become over‑spiritualized and paralyzed, always needing “God told me…” before making even simple decisions, and how that actually keeps us in a form of spiritual slavery instead of sonship and maturity.
