🔴 What is Rejoicing in the Lord? | Processing Thoughts, Feelings and Emotions | Vain Repetition

In this Sunday Live, I continue our Philippians Bible study and dive deep into Paul’s call to “rejoice in the Lord.” What does it actually mean to rejoice when life feels anything but joyful? Is joy just a religious cliché, or a real, practical experience we can grow in—especially in the midst of anxiety, depression, OCD, heartbreak, and spiritual struggles? I walk through what rejoicing is and what it is not, clearing up common myths like “joy vs. happiness,” “joy is not an emotion,” and “rejoicing means faking it or suppressing grief.” I then get very practical: How do we “rejoice in the Lord” when our nervous system is fried, our thoughts are intrusive, and our emotions feel flat or numb? How do we welcome joy when we don’t feel it at all?

I then share perspectives on using CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) as a believer. What does it mean and is it ok? I then move into how dealing with thoughts, feelings, and distortions can actually be part of healthy discipleship. We talk about the relationship between thoughts, emotions, and feelings, and how to move from “I just feel bad” to better understanding what’s going on in our inner world from a biblical and mental health lens.

I also address questions about narcissism vs. bullying, how to handle having only unsaved friends, intrusive doubts about God’s existence, the desire to feel forgiveness, and the deep exhaustion that comes with OCD and constant inner pressure.

I also spend some extended time talking about the question of “What is Vain Repetition?” bringing out the biblical context and how we can understand its influence in our rituals, prayers and spiritual routines. If you are looking to find refreshment in your Christian walk, join us!
