🔴 We Have not Arrived | OCD in Families | Afraid of Your Thoughts | Obsessing Over Your Faith

In this Sunday Live, I walk through a powerful section of Philippians 3 and share why you haven’t arrived… and that’s actually the point. I explore Paul’s “no confidence in the flesh” mindset, how he treats his impressive religious resume and what he lost in his old religious life as rubbish and what that means for those of us who are tired of performance-driven Christianity. We talk about the “already but not yet” tension, what it really means to “forget what is behind,” and why that verse has been misused to shut down heart healing instead of opening us up to it.

From there, I connect these biblical themes to real mental health struggles—especially perfectionism, OCD, intrusive thoughts, and salvation anxiety. I share stories and questions from listeners about hereditary OCD, intrusive thoughts in kids, fear about “believing correctly,” and the torment of constantly checking if you’re really saved. I also talk about how I help my own children with intrusive thoughts, why “take every thought captive” is often misunderstood and why we must stop living afraid of our thoughts if we want to experience a sound mind and the grace of God in a deeper way.

I also open up about my own journey—leaving a stable pastoral role 20 years ago, the losses that came with choosing a heart-healing path, and how Paul’s language about loss, rubbish, and the upward call of God in Christ has reshaped how I see those seasons. Along the way, I tackle questions on addiction and self-harm patterns, singleness and sex drive, parenting in a sexualized culture, and the cost of following Christ when others don’t understand your pursuit of healing and freedom.
