In this special Wednesday Q&A live, Melissa and I address your questions on a wide range of topics affecting mental, emotional, and relationship health from a biblical perspective. We share a bit of our struggles with family and especially watching our aging parents and how they deal and cope with their later stages of life.
Confusion Over the “True Church”: A viewer’s friend converted to Eastern Orthodoxy and now believes Protestants aren’t true Christians. I discuss the concerning pattern of exclusivity in certain church traditions, how rigid religious systems can appeal to those seeking certainty, and why this mindset can lean toward controlling, “cult-like” tendencies. I emphasize that while Jesus is the only way, specific rituals and routines shouldn’t become the measure of someone’s salvation.
Generational Deliverance: I challenge the “quick fix” approach to breaking generational patterns, explaining that real transformation happens through daily discipleship and a journey. Drawing from my own process, I share how lasting change comes through renewal, practice, and walking out freedom—not instant deliverance sessions that leave people feeling condemned when breakthrough does not show up or struggles return.
Purity Culture: Having served as a youth pastor during the height of purity culture, I offer a nuanced perspective. While understanding why the church reacted the way it did, I address how legalism within this movement created unhealthy relationships with marriage and sexuality. The real missing piece? Addressing relational brokenness and helping the core issues that need to be addressed.
Political Podcasts on Mental Health I share my concerns about political discourse infiltrating conversations about mental health. I respond to a viewer question about a popular conservative podcast episode with Allie Beth Stuckey, criticizing psychology. I shared some of my feedback on the episode and some important perspectives.
Why I Stopped Keto: I get personal about my dietary journey, explaining why I shifted away from keto and intermittent fasting. I discuss night eating struggles, satiation issues and other things I have learned.
OCD and “Am I an Alcoholic?” A viewer struggles with intrusive thoughts about whether enjoying wine makes them an alcoholic. I address the OCD cycle at play and offer a grounded response, while sharing my own journey.
