đź”´ Salvation OCD and Bible Reading | Detoxing Charismatic Extremes | Perfectionistic Parenting | Estrangement

In this Sunday Live, I dive into a wide range of questions at the intersection of mental, emotional, and relationship health with a biblical lens and practical mental health insights. But I first start things off on the lighter side, giving an update on the Church Lady and the Church Gentleman’s ongoing journey together, as they attend the Church Lady’s church!

Melissa and I share some practical and personal moments from parenting, OCD patterns in kids, and what it looks like to walk this out in real life. I tackle some deep issues many of you are wrestling with: salvation OCD and the fear of reading the Bible, intrusive thoughts coming back after you thought you were “healed,” and what it really means to deny yourself and take up your cross when you struggle with scrupulosity and anxiety.

I also respond to a question about dramatic charismatic experiences—people falling out under the power of God, mass manifestations, and “special anointing” culture—and how that impacts our view of everyday church life. We look at a mom’s struggle with perfectionism in parenting and the fear of “ruining” her child’s memories and a heartbreaking situation of estrangement from adult children and grandchildren, asking what restoration might realistically look like.

I address concerns about being defiled and whether defilement is “contagious,” fears of “going to hell” and possibly being a narcissist, and how to discern between true conviction and intrusive thoughts. Along the way, we talk about detoxing from prophetic/instant-answer streams, jealousy over other people’s “special encounters with God” and how superstition and magical thinking can distort spiritual warfare.
