Our generations have been plagued with a persistent pattern of numbing out from our pain and the struggles we face. We all fall into it at one time or another. The problem is, this numbing out pattern is keeping masses of people from experiencing the healing they need, and it is also keeping them from the greater potential they carry.
Take notice to the end of your day. Too many of us are closing out our schedules with activities and habits that fuel this numbing out, rather than leading us into more restored and healthy hearts. Many of these activities are not necessarily evil, but they don’t provide any life and refreshment to our hearts. They can further disconnect us from facing things that we continually avoid. In fact, too often we look to these numbing out habits as a way of trying to escape and feel comforted. Yet as we close the day, emptiness is still there.
The Dangers of Numbing Out
Although it can be an everyday temptation to numb out from what you are going through, the long term consequences can be deadly to the life of the heart. Slowly over time, we can become bitter and most of all, develop a calloused and hard heart that will keep us from experiencing the life that God called us to experience.
When we numb out, we shut out our heart not only from experiencing pain, but also from experiencing anything, and that includes joy and excitement.
In order to experience the maximum fruit of living free from our hearts, we cannot expect change if we continue to numb ourselves our to the issues of the heart that need to be addressed. Difficulties in life are often the greatest opportunities for growth, but it often involves facing some discomfort and pain to get us there.
We can ignore the pain and numb out all we want to, but the problems are still there.
What we want to do in this episode is get to the “why” of numbing out; why we numb out and what needs to happen for change to take place. On top of it all, we want to give you some mindsets and actions steps that can propel you into a place of forming new mindsets and new habits that breathe life into your challenges and struggles.
