Genesis records the amazing beginning of mankind as we know it. God fashioned the heavens and the earth and created humans; beginning with Adam. Out of Adam, God formed and fashioned Eve. Not only did God create mankind, he created man in His own image; a beautiful and wonderful design.
God gave these humans authority over the land and over creation, w’s Deihich even included the naming of the animals. Adam was given the important charge of caring for Eve , who came from him. In addition, God’s initial design was for him to keep watch over the garden and to tend to it.
In the garden, God laid down the foundation for relationship. He spent time walking with Adam in the cool of the day. Adam did not have to pray into this. He did not have to overcome anything to receive this.
Relationship and intimacy were available right there. It was a privileged state of being and living that Adam possessed. God also established relationship between a husband and wife, laying a foundation for family and loving relationships.
God’s original design was for us to be in right relationship with Him and with each other. In this context, the love and intimacy of God could have an ever-flowing expression.
In the beauty of the garden, the enemy arrives. Satan himself comes with a mission to overthrow the power of the relationship that man had with God and with each other. This relationship with God was something that satan lost and could never regain.
It is interesting to note that satan has a history with God, where he was once called Lucifer—a covering cherub that experienced the vast depths of worship and the glory of God. The Bible says in Ezekiel that he was perfect, until iniquity was found in his heart.
This is actually where sin began. Original sin did not begin with Adam—it actually began with Lucifer.
Lucifer’s choice of thoughts, covered in rebellion, then manifested sin. He sought to undermine God’s authority and exalt himself above God. God saw this sin and cast Lucifer down, and he was then named satan or the devil. As Lucifer, he had amazing responsibilities in the Kingdom of God. Now as satan, he and his army were bound in judgment and punishment.
