#161: Freedom from Religious Legalism

Without Going into the Other Extreme

Religious Legalism

I believe there is nothing more dangerous to the health and vitality of people than religious legalism in Christianity. It’s been there since the early church and it finds it way easily into the lives of well meaning churches, ministries and Christian fellowships.

The Danger of Legalism

No one want so to admit they are a legalist. The Pharisees didn’t want to admit it, but the mindset of legalism will easily infiltrate our thinking, causing us to miss out on the magnificent grace and love that God has for us. Too many people are walking around with an added burden they do not need to carry.

Maybe you were raised in a legalistic environment or are recently coming out of one. We want to spend some time talking about what a legalistic mindset does, how to detect it and how to detox from its effects in your life. May our discussion encourage you to live further in the power of God’s love for you that can be experience in Christ Jesus.

Diving Into the Other Extreme

At the same time, we want to also address the rising pattern that is leading people to the opposite extreme, where important values and sin are watered down to a point where people lose their moral compass. Lawlessness can often be a response to religious legalism, leading people down another path that is also harmful and destructive.

Can we get free from religious legalism without finding ourselves in another bad ditch? We believe it’s possible and can usher in a great deal of freedom, while at the same time, keeping our lives grounded and stable in perilous times.
